National NHS England WT&E Independent Prescribing Training Offer 2026-27

NHS England Workforce Training & Education (WT&E, formerly HEE) provides access to fully funded independent prescribing training for pharmacists until 31 March 2027.

These places are available to pharmacists across England who meet the following eligibility criteria:

Community pharmacists (including locum pharmacists); Pharmacists employed in General Practice (who are not eligible for, or enrolled on, the Primary Care Pharmacy Education Programme (PCPEP) and those who are working to provide primary care services (e.g., working in primary care) who are not employed in ARRS roles); and Health and Justice pharmacists.

Pharmacists enrolled on CPPE’s Primary Care Pharmacy Education Pathway (PCPEP) and meet the PCPEP criteria to enrol on an Independent Prescribing Course.

Pharmacists working in an NHS Hospital Trust or Mental Health Trust (NHS managed sector); pharmacists working in an integrated care board, ICB (previously CCG pharmacists).

NEW for 2026/27 - Change to UCL application process

In London, the UCL IP course is a nationally approved provider. For 2026/27, the UCL application process will change. Applications will now be reviewed and places offered strictly in order of receipt. Applications should be submitted as soon as possible when the UCL application portal opens.

Applicants should see the UCL website for further information on the new application process.

London Region Independent Prescribing Offer 2026-27
For Pharmacists working in London NHS Trusts only

Pharmacy London have commissioned additional independent prescribing places for pharmacists working in London NHS Trusts with our training partner, Kings College London (KCL). Places will be available across two cohorts in Sept 2026 and Feb 2027.

Eligibility

Places will be for pharmacists working in London NHS Hospital and NHS Mental Health Trusts (NHS managed sector) only.

Pharmacists working in other sectors of care can access independent prescribing training offers through the national NHS England Workforce Training & Education Independent Prescribing offer here.

Pharmacists will need to have (as a minimum):

The support of an identified designated prescribing practitioner (DPP).

An appropriate practice-based learning environment in a prescribing setting that can offer appropriate clinical support.

Commitment to use the skill within your area of competence and expertise, for the delivery of NHS clinical services as they emerge.

Applicants must meet both the NHS England funding eligibility and the KCL course entry requirements. Learners, their DPPs and employers should review the full KCL course requirements and ensure they meet the KCL and NHS England eligibility requirements before applying.

KCL IP course places will be offered on a first come, first served basis. Note applications may close earlier than stated as places will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
